And They Said It Wouldn't Last...
Today is December 3, 2003. Twenty-five years ago today, I stood up for my good friend, and now, my sister-in-law, Terry, as she married my big brother. Mike is 6 years older than I, and the first to be married of the three sibs. Being the baby sisters, Mike picked on me and my sister, Lisa, quite a bit. But as we grew older, he became a friend to us. Even so, I couldn't imagine my brother taking care of another person... especially a woman! He picked a gem -- Terry Arlene Stone. I was the Maid of Honor. I sang in the wedding with Terry's brother... a song about the second coming. We were an odd church. Weddings were more of an evangelism tool than a wedding. I wore a head covering ('nuther day... 'nuther blog). Terry wore a borrowed dress. I think they spent about $500 on the whole wedding.
Terry was my best friend when she was 16 and I was 13. I suggested she go out with my brother, but he was a ladies man (although he won't admit it), and she didn't think she wanted to be a part of that whole scene. They dated off and on for a couple of years, I think, and I remember Terry saying once, "God will have to write it in the sky if He wants me to marry Mike DeLong." So the next day I hired skywriters. heh... just kidding. Somehow, by the grace of God and a few miracles, they ended up together.
God must have written something in the sky for Terry somewhere along the line. She's been my sister-in-law for 25 years today. She's a godly woman whom I trust, respect, and admire. My brother did a good thing when he married Terry. And Terry did a good thing when she married my brother.
Lest you get confused with all the mentions of Mikes around here, let me explain. My brother's name is Michael. My sister's name is Lisa. She married Michael Davis. I married Michael Main. Yes, three Michaels. Thank God, my brother goes by Mike. Just to add to the confusion, I named my daughter Lisa, after my sister. So... three Mikes and two Lisas. Somehow, we all know who we're talking about when we say the name Mike or Lisa. It's a family thing. My Michael makes it easy because he always calls me Mrs. Main. A lot of women would be offended by that. I love it.
Anyway...
Happy anniversary to my friend and my sister.. and happy anniversary to friend and my brother... I love you both very much.
Love,
Amo
